Orange County Polo Club

A few days ago an opportunity arose for me to play the sport of kings! Yes, Orange County Polo Club invited me to play at their new facility in the wonderfully exclusive community of Coto De Caza. Naturally, I jumped at the chance and soon found myself cantering across a beautiful playing arena.

Having previously played polo, I must say that OC Polo club has a facility and faculty that can take any rider, or non-rider, to new heights. And although my polo playing does have a history, my natural talents were obviously lacking in the polo department.

Heather Schuberth, manager of OC Polo club quickly realized my pathetic skills and gave me lessons on the finer points of this delightful sport. Okay, okay; she gave me lessons on everything from my riding to my mallet swinging. What can I say, I was rusty!

Regardless of my woeful inadequacies, I had a great time riding with a most gracious host. My trusty and patient polo pony Batata was as nimble and talented a horse as they come. And therein lies my revere of OC Polo club. For they have a program that can fit anyone. Trust me, anyone. From children as young as 5 yrs. old to adults, OC Polo club can, through friendly and fun lessons, make a polo player out of you.

I have taken lessons from other polo clubs and can say that what is on offer in the basin of Coto De Caza is more than worth the drive. Nominal lesson fee notwithstanding, OC Polo club is more than just a great school. The camaraderie between players, students, faculty and their remarkable ponies is without equal. And if playing wasn’t enough, OC Polo club arranges excursions to Uruguay and Argentina to watch polo playing at its finest. High goal polo and the refreshing ambiance of Buenos Aires, what can be better?!

After having playing polo with Batata, Capataz and Heather, I have the polo passion once more. I urge all you to give the true sport of kings a try. You will definitely love the game and most importantly your steed. Let others keep their Ralph Lauren images and shirts!
